She ran to the Police seeking justice against the monster who had defiled her but her flight only led her in the hands of another defiler.

A police officer in Jinja allegedly defiled a girl who had earlier been defiled, Daily Monitor has learnt.

The girl had been put under his custody shortly after the initial aggressor was arrested.

Daily Monitor could not immediately establish what could have motivated Police Constable Emmanuel Mulere's alleged act on the 14-year-old Primary Seven leaver in Jinja. But the Police said they had locked up the officer attached to Mafubira Sub-county Police Post.

The alleged defilement by the policeman occurred just a day after the girl's mother reported the first defilement on November 17, which got a one Dennis Ngobi, a neighbour to the victim's family, arrested.

As a matter of procedure, the victim had to be examined by a police doctor to ascertain the crime. Ms Aminah Mudowa, the victim's mother, left her behind as she had domestic duties to attend to, and PC Mulele was apparently assigned to stay at the station with the girl as they awaited the arrival of a police doctor.

Used tricks

The policeman is, however, said to have instead lured the girl away from the police station, into a video hall where the two stayed until late in the night. The girl, who was only released back to her family the following day, complained to her mother and the officer was arrested immediately on orders of the South-eastern Regional Police Commander, Mr Christopher Kubai.

By yesterday, PC Mulele was still detained at the Jinja Central Police Station and is due to appear in court today to be formally charged for defilement together with the alleged original defiler, Ngobi.

"This is a very unique case, a police officer failing to take care of the complainant? We are going to handle this," Mr Kubai said.

Jinja police has opened two files, one for the alleged first defiler and the second for the policeman. Efforts to get to the suspects were futile as journalists were not allowed to talk to them.
